The municipality in which this detached house was built is situated on a height of about 1000 meters and is part of the UNESCO biosphere reserve “Großes Walsertal”. The environment is characterized by the surrounding nature and the beautiful mountain panorama. Accordingly, it was very important to adapt the new house harmoniously to the environment. Thus, creating a nature-oriented character for the building was a major aspect during the planning process.
The building stands on a steep slope and is realized as a solid construction.
The goal was to create a space that is consistent regarding appearance and usability within the given budget. For this reason, the surface of the ground floor was reduced, thus responding to the given characteristics of slope and putting emphasis on the upper floor. In addition, the building uses two simple yet intelligent means of design: a diagonal shuttering and a rising attic. Both terrace and windows were directed towards cardinal directions and views.
The slope was integrated into the design of the building while the green roof areas – used as gardens – embed the building into the green panorama.
