Sublime

Small house. Big impact.

The special feature and challenge in the planning of this project lay in the conditions of the building plot: it is quite steep and has a small building window. Due to the tall surrounding buildings, however, it was possible to build quite high. This led to the idea of a "residential tower" in which the functions of the house are arranged one above the other.

In the interests of sustainability, the entire building was constructed using natural construction methods and avoided the use of petroleum-based insulating materials wherever possible. The building was constructed using glue-free solid wood walls, which were left visible in the living space for a natural character. Clay plaster on the ceilings also ensures a pleasant indoor climate.

The detached house has two entrances. Accessed via the main entrance on the north side, there is a children's room and all ancillary rooms on the first floor. This entrance is accessible via a driveway with carport. The second entrance is located in the basement on the side of the house. The sports room can be accessed from there. The basement of the house was an important measure to create additional space in the small building window.

A staircase runs through the middle of the building, connecting the floors. On the second floor, this staircase also serves as a prominent, space-defining element between the cooking and living/dining areas. A large tiled stove gives the living area the character of a parlor. In addition, the roof of the carport is accessible and thus offers a spacious north-facing terrace area on the second floor.

Another children's room and the master bedroom with walk-in closet are located on the top floor of the building. With a total living space of 135 sqm for 4 people, the sleeping areas are relatively small.

The special feature of this project is the play with height. The overhang on the first floor is striking, giving the house a graceful appearance and creating a sublime impression.
