KAISERLICH

Refurbishment as an architectural dialog: Engaging with the past, present and future.

The historic facades of the village houses, often decorated with intricate wood carvings and warm, natural colors, reflect the alpine architecture that is deeply rooted in the region.

Traditional details such as aged wood panelling and rustic balconies characterize the townscape and are in authentic harmony with the surrounding forests, alpine meadows and majestic peaks - a unique space where nature and architecture come together in perfect harmony.

The project, intended as a residence for family and friends, is a clearly structured space that is far more than a mere retreat - it is a place where the architecture fulfills the need for community and tranquility in equal measure. The architecture acts as a social mediator, not only creating spaces for private retreats, but also encouraging interaction, gathering and exchange within the community through its structure and design, striking a balance between individual intimacy and collective belonging while integrating the ever-changing panorama of the Wilder Kaiser into everyday life.

The project focuses on a harmonious combination of local resources and contemporary construction methods through the respectful renovation of existing structures and their best possible preservation. Contact with nature remains crucial - the large window areas and the open, flowing floor plan allow views of the surrounding landscape and naturally flood the space with light and air from the mountains. Materials such as reclaimed wood, timber and natural stone not only blend seamlessly into the alpine surroundings, but also contribute to the sustainability and ecological design of the building.

The use of local companies reduces the ecological footprint, increases the value chain and at the same time ensures a strong connection between the house and the region. The interior features clean lines, lots of exposed wood and understated, rustic furnishings that make efficient use of the space by also making optimal use of intermediate spaces as furniture. A fireplace, real wood flooring, reclaimed wood on display, lightly patterned fabrics and hunting trophies on the walls convey a homely, down-to-earth character. The façade with its traditional wooden ornaments as details, which can also be found in the balcony, is reminiscent of local tradition and craftsmanship that merge with nature.

The design reflects the idea of a space that remains historic - but adaptable - through the renovation and is therefore allowed to mature and age with the new residents in an imperial and dignified manner.
