New interpretation of the architecture.
Traditional hotel translated into the modern age.

The concept describes the conversion of the oldest part of a traditional hotel in Vorarlberg.

The client's wish was to establish an in-house wine cellar, including sales. In addition, the hotel was to be adapted to the cycling tourism in the area and offer apartments for "self-catering" in addition to the classic hotel business.

The future wine cellar and the guest garden form the foundation of the design. Building on this, a kind of tower is created, which is set apart from the rest of the building by an incision in the structure. A new hotel entrance is also created in this incision.

In order to make the original main entrance a little quieter, it was screened off from the street by a green wooden slatted wall. These slats also create a stylistic link to the newly designed part of the hotel.

The stairwell of the "tower", which has been raised by two storeys, is a highlight thanks to the generous glazing and elegant lighting, which attracts attention even from the street.

The converted hotel area is accessed via the first floor. This is where the parlors are located, for which the client wanted a more flexible use. The four small parlors have been combined into two large rooms. These are connected by a sliding door and can be separated.
The exit to the cellar serves as a space-defining element in the design and thus combines the character of the parlors with the atmosphere of the wine cellar.

As the existing cellar has very low ceilings and the guest garden leading off it is on the street side, the floor will be lowered. This will increase the room height and the guest garden will be better shielded from the street by a wall and pergolas.
The guest garden is arranged on two levels and is accessible from both the wine cellar and the parlors on the first floor. As the old chestnut trees in the garden are particularly dear to the client's heart, they act as cardinal points for the new concept.

Two of the newly created apartments are located on the 1st and 2nd floors. An event location with a roof terrace is being created on the top floor, which can be used in a variety of ways.

The building ends with a special roof construction, which was created in reference to the name of the inn. The dark roof cladding made of specially shaped roof tiles acts as a contrast to the plaster façade finished with a broom finish.

By emphasizing the positive characteristics of the existing building, a new interpretation of the hotel's architecture is created in combination with modern elements, without losing its original character.
