The design for the demolition and new construction of a hotel complex in a municipality in Vorarlberg was developed in the course of a study.
The concept shows a rough definition of the building masses and the clever use of the terraced topography of the site. It moves away from the classic hotel business towards a hybrid form of hotel,
The project includes condominiums and space for commercial premises, as well as a restaurant and a café to create a new community meeting place for the village.
The decisive factor in this project was the dissolution of the large existing hotel volume into four smaller buildings that fit into the village structure and thus function as a new village center.
This is achieved through the shape, arrangement and orientation of the buildings, as they adapt to the course of the neighboring street and integrate into the urban grain of the village. This gives the impression that they have always been there.
The slight slope is cleverly used in the design by positioning the parking spaces and the wellness area under the hotel into the slope.
A reinterpretation of the local pitched roof shapes, with a 45 degree turn, also gives the buildings an identity-creating character.
