The groundbreaking ceremony for the new apartment hotel marked another important step for the leisure and sports complex in Axams. A tourist accommodation facility is being built between the Regionalbad and the Ruifach Stadium, which will complement the complex functionally, economically, and architecturally.
Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Apartment Hotel at the Axams Regional Swimming Pool
The project includes 25 apartments with approximately 82 beds and direct access to the indoor pool. The goal is to increase the regional pool’s occupancy rate year-round and thereby contribute to the long-term financial stability of the regional infrastructure.
Architecture that harnesses existing potential
At the heart of the design is a compact, resource-efficient structure. The clean, understated design language and the high-quality wood facade are intentionally integrated into the existing built environment and the landscape of the western low mountain range.
An overall design that makes efficient use of space was particularly important to us: The necessary parking spaces will be housed in a parking garage built on top of the existing hard-surface soccer field. A new soccer field will be constructed on the roof of the garage, accessible via stairs and an elevator. An additional bridge connection will also provide barrier-free access to the Ruifach Stadium in the future.
This allows existing, already sealed surfaces to be reused multiple times, while avoiding additional land use.
Added Value for Axams and the Region
The direct connection between the apartment hotel, the regional swimming pool, and the sports facilities creates synergies for guests, locals, and the community. The proximity to public transportation as well as to sports and recreational activities promotes sustainable mobility and the efficient use of existing infrastructure.
The project was unanimously approved by the municipal council and received a positive evaluation from the regional planning department. In addition to increased utilization of the regional swimming pool, the municipality also expects to generate ongoing revenue.
The apartment hotel is not just an isolated construction project, but an integral component of a vibrant recreational and sports complex—combining architectural sophistication, functional clarity, and long-term added value for Axams.
